Designated Pitcher: Tier 1 Team Managers may engage any WESA Member to serve as a non-batting Designated Pitcher. All pitches shall be delivered with the intent of being strikes and the pitcher must fully play the defensive position without attempting to lessen their impact on the game. A Designated Pitcher is not part of the batting lineup, may pitch for both teams, and is not subject to a game maximum.
Tier 3 Spare Requirements (effective 2026 regular season):
1. The WESA SQ for any spare player(s) engaged by Team Management in T3 shall be no more than the average SQ of the team’s missing players, rounded up, plus 1.
Example: if 5 players from a team of 13 are missing and those missing players have SQs of 7,8,8,8, and 12, Team Management can engage up to 2 spares to their lineup, each spare with a maximum SQ of 10 (average 8.6 rounded up to 9.0 plus 1)
2. The penalty for playing an ineligible spare as per (a) above is forfeiture of the game.
3. Infractions(s) can be reported at any time before the end of the regular season (July 12).
4. Notwithstanding (e) below, it will no longer be incumbent on the opposing coach to preapprove, veto, or otherwise vet spare player(s).
5. In the case of non-WESA Member spares that do not have a provisional SQ, Team Management from both sides must agree that the proposed spare is appropriate and, therefore, may participate in the game with the expectation that the WESA SQ Committee will provide the spare with a provisional SQ based on his/her performance in that first game played.
